It's unreal. This has been my dream for as long as I can remember, since the first time I visited the place where reality is secondary and being the most extraordinary self you can be is glorified - I can't say "weird" because I find that place more sane and comfortable than anywhere else I've been. This is the place where women can wear corsets and extravagant dresses, or more excitingly, peasant dresses, and being pleasantly plump is a BENEFIT; where people talk in period language, and the more exotic your accent, the better; where you can assume any character you wish, and be the person you want yourself to be - and the best part of it all: the constraints of responsibility and the hardships of life cannot interfere!
This is the most magical place on Earth. And on Sunday, January 26th at 11:20 am, I'm auditioning for a chance to get PAID to do this! I have to prepare a one- to two-minute monologue, either comedic or dramatic (I'm hoping to go for comedic) and a 30-second song. I just emailed the head of auditions for some tips and help regarding what to choose to sing and act, hopefully she can help me a bit.
Even if I don't get in this year, it will be the first step to achieving my dreams next year, and it will give me some insight towards what to be prepared with next year. Also, the auditions seem to be one-on-one, so that might afford me time to ask questions. If they aren't one-on-one, I could meet the cast members I so admire and idolize! And if worst comes to worst, at least I get to visit the Faire.
I couldn't be more excited, and I think everyone should be pursuing their dreams! Go for it, be your best. And most importantly, remember that the only thing between you and your dreams is trying, because no matter who or what gets in your way, it's up to you to keep working towards them. I know that if I don't make it this year, I'll be back every year for at least the next ten to give it a shot. Because I know my dream is worth it. So know yours is too, and go get it!
