For any architectural wizzes out there, I apologize for the scales almost certainly being off, but it’s the ratios I’m looking at. Also, the accessories I inputed would not be the ones I would want, it was just to show where things would go; the windows in particular are not the right style or size. Note there is a 3D and 2D viewing option, it is helpful to look at both to get an idea of what I am going for. Also, I had plans for more windows and of a different size, particularly the bay windows on the dining room and front of the house.
It’s a pretty simple design, basically a two-level home using the basement as a story, so really only a one story. What I’ve thought to do is use the basement as what would be the upper story in a conventional home. This has some disadvantages, I realize, but I have some ideas to slightly accommodate this as well:
1. no windows, meaning no natural light so more expensive electricity bills.
I hoped to build a ‘back’ entrance, stairs that slant into the ground basically, and is reached through a sort of skylight door like in old basements, so that some natural light could be let in in at least some of the rooms.

2. Also a problem with the living-underground business, is if any of the houses’ occupants have allergies this wouldn’t help them as it could probably get damp. But I feel that is just one of those risks I’m willing to take. I lived in our basement as a kid and young adult all summer and most weekends in winter with my friends and none of us ever got sick, so I’ll take a chance on that. Plus, it’s all in the building materials.
3. I am facing a bit of a dilemma with construction.
I was hoping for what would be essentially concrete tubes, but I fear that may not be possible, or too expensive. I won’t know those details until I consult with a builder’s or architect, so no use worrying over that just yet. I am also worried about the affordability of round windows and a round door; however I do know a good woodworker, and round windows I’m sure are in existence other than portholes!
